Report: Taiwan
to test fire missiles, and the U.S is expressing disappointment? Relevent paragraphs:
The United States, which recognizes Beijing's
"one China" policy
but is Taiwan's major
supplier of arms, had expressed its concern to the Taiwan government
China, which has claimed sovereignty over Taiwan since their split in 1949 at
the end of the Chinese civil war, has deployed nearly 800 short-range ballistic
missiles aimed at the self-ruled island in case it formally declares
independence
So let me get this straight, we concerned that Taiwan is
trying to respond to having 800 missiles pointed at it? I’m disappointed too, that Taiwan doesn’t have more!
But, unfortunately, international diplomacy is series
choices that are often between the lesser of two evils. I believe the Bush administration may be more
worried about North Korea
and is trying to get China’s
cooperation. If true, it’s a flawed
policy. Again
China is blocking the U.S and Japan in the Security Council. I appreciate the complexities of foreign
policy, but I believe a strong Taiwan
is good for the U.S. I also believe it may be time to readdress the
WWII treaty with Japan
because again, a strong Japan
is also good for the U.S.
